From curating landmark moments for Boiler Room in the Bass & Percs series, to starting a new all South Asian club-night, No ID, which recently took over three nights at the Dishoom stage at Lost Village Festival, to being featured in a Nike ad campaign - Ahadadream has had a busy year. Although his edits (Rosalía, Unknown T, Shinichiro Yokota and more) have been ever present in the club, the Storm EP is a long awaited return to releasing original music.
The first track of the EP entitled ‘Dhol Part 2’ draws from Ahad’s Pakistani heritage, utilising dhol samples (as he did on his first EP “Movements”) and re-imagining wedding instruments into a club-ready weapon. ‘Buckshot’ is a dedication to Ahadadream’s love for dancehall rhythms and incorporates rave elements which drive the fierce instrumental throughout.
‘Full Moon In Scorpio’ is a collaboration with Australian-Lebanese producer, DJ Plead who’s recent release on Nervous Horizon has been an immovable feature in Ahadadream’s DJ sets. It features DJ Plead’s signature middle eastern synth lines, expertly crafted to fit on top of a rolling drum track.
The Storm EP is surely the beginning of an extremely exciting period for both More Time Records and Ahadadream and starts off the Timewarp series with intent.
My whole body agrees with the pace of this short but solid track list. A generous helping of acoustic rhythm samples ignited by breakbeats add extra attention to full range movement on the dancefloor. Not a beat wasted. cherub420
All the tracks are great but Stepper is the standout for me! pounding syncopated kicks, rolling handdrums and playful sample work, dancefloor destroyer. Jack G.
